Articles: Hobie 16s, Weta trimarans featured in Charlotte Harbor Regatta

Strong Hobie 16 and Weta trimaran fleets will be featured on one of three racing circles in the inaugural Charlotte Harbor Regatta, scheduled for Feb. 5-7, 2010 in Charlotte Harbor, Florida.

The multihull circle will include Hobie 16 class chairman and Florida district president Arie Van Duijn, while the Weta fleet will include the class's North American distributor Jon Britt of NorBanks Sailing. Hobie 16 charters will be available via Tradewinds. The two classes will be among nine classes on three racing circles on beautiful Charlotte Harbor, named by SAIL magazine as one of the "top 10 greatest places to sail in the United States."
The Notice of Race for the Charlotte Harbor Regatta has been posted and registration is now open via our Web site at www.charlotteharborregatta.com.

With low fees, great hotel rates, generous sponsors and lots more, the Charlotte Harbor Regatta promises to be the fun, affordable regatta. Nine classes will be participating including the Flying Scot, Hobie 16, Weta trimaran, S2 7.9, Sunfish, Viper 640, Melges 24 and Precision 15.

The Charlotte Harbor Regatta will feature fast, competitive racing, exciting onshore activities and beautiful Southwest Florida weather. Hobie 16 and Weta registration is only $75 and US Sailing members get a $5 discount. Regatta rates on area hotels start at $65, and early birds can snag a two-bedroom suite right at our regatta host, Fishermen’s Village Resort& Marina, for only $140 a night.

If racers register before Dec. 31, 2009, they'll be eligible for a drawing for three free nights at a local hotel. Another drawing open to all entrants is for a three-night vacation package, featuring free golf foursomes and dinners.

The Hobie 16 and Weta classes will race Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Participants are invited to attend a Thursday night reception at Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club and nightly regatta parties at Fishermen's Village as part of their registration. Late registrations will be accepted on Friday morning with a $10 late fee.

Participants may register and pay online via our US Sailing Regatta Network applet or printout a registration form and mail in your entry and payment. The Web site also will enable participants and prospective entrants to see who has signed up for what classes, buy regatta gear and follow the results come February. Lodging,directions, related links and a regatta store also are featured online.
